Wateen Bolt WiMAX is easy plug and play on Ubuntu

Wateen has launched it’s new WiMAX USB Modem in Pakistan named Bolt. The device is free on a promotion for Warid postpaid customers. So I paid PKR 700 for it’s bill and device is here. Well no issue of connecting and using it on Ubuntu 11.10. I activated it, and it’s just plug and play with your Ubuntu.

It’s 512 Kbps with 7GB of monthly download limit.

If you have used PTCL EVO, you need to add a new network connection with username and password. Bolt get detected and your system is on Internet.

My review

While telling the review of an internet device, it always depends how you use internet. People download movies and their torrent software always working. I don’t download too muchn movies and see online movies and youtube. Gmail, Twitter, Facebook, BBC Urdu, Express News etc are my frequently visited websites. And I am preferring it to be good. The only thing I dislike is, the deveice need to be more compact to dongle. I do not like the wired USB modem. But deffinately, they will not offer internet dongle device in this price.

How to install iOS 5 on Jailbreaked iPhone 4 having iOS 4.3.5

If you have iPhone4 with jailbreaked iOS 4.3.5 and getting error 3194 while upgrading to iOS 5 via iTunes, then just stop worrying.

Grab the solution given below and get rid of 3194 Error. I followed following steps and got running iOS 5 on my iPhone 4.

Install latest version of iTunes which is 10.5 so get updated it on your PC.
Disable security software (Antivirus etc…) if any on your PC and disable firewalls (recommended but not mandatory).
Open TinyUmbrella, move to the Advanced tab and un check the box “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit”, It will set your host file to point back to Apple but after exiting TinyUmbrella, dont forget to restart your PC.
Connect your iPhone to your PC and put it into DFU mode. Follow this link to put your iPhone into DFU Mode.
Now open iTunes, press the restore button. your iPhone will be detected in recovery mode and iOS 5 installation will be start till to successful completion.

As it took a lot of time to him to figure it out the pain free way to update to iOS 5, so he was anxious to share. These steps are shared in good faith. Mozilla has launched a support program, providing help to those people who tweet their Firefox problems.

This support program is called Army of Awesome. You don’t need to be a Firefox expert to reply. Just pick the tweet that you think you can provide help over it. Its a nice way to support open source and free software. I appreciate this move by Mozilla. And I will give some time to it.

What is the architecture of Facebook?

We use Facebook a lot. At least me. I just come up with an interesting presentation of Director of Engineering of Facebook on its architecture. I am excited to see that they are using LAMP for Facebook. And they empowered their software stack with other open source softwares. They are not using relations in MySQL. They are storing key value pairs. Facebook is also using content delivery network. Things that we post on our wall not appeared immediately on our friend’s wall.

Though presentation is bit old but it is useful for web community. I found it very interesting that how they solve their problems and manage data on such a large scale.

When I was in university for my BS program and going to start final year project. We were in a big debate of using MySQL and PHP or Java with Oracle. But if Facebook selected LAMP stack. Then it should be considered while developing web applications. What you think?

Facebook is a best example of using open source softwares.
